What does it take to be a Mooring Inspection Expert?

With minimal training, almost anyone can use a caliper to take a measurement or watch a ROV monitor and claim to have inspected a mooring system. But how can you be sure of the accuracy of these measurements? Was the chain cleaned properly? Was the tool placed correctly and in the appropriate location?

September 2018 Project and Technology Update

Thanks to an increased focus on efficiency and a continued commitment to reliability and meaningful data, Welaptega has ridden the wave of change brought on by the recent industry downturn and further solidified its position as the industry leader in in-situ mooring inspections. After a busy Summer 2018 that saw us inspection more than ten mooring systems of permanently-moored floating assets, we wanted to take a moment to let you know what we’ve been up to.

Mooring System Design Considerations

/
A permanently moored Floating Production Unit has a complex mooring system with many constraints. A wide variety of factors must be considered to try to predict the future and account for degradation of the system.

High Standards For the High-Performing Energy Industry

Our work with the pan-industry FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading) Forum has been focused on mooring integrity and the management of mooring systems. A decade ago, we were a founding member of the FPSO committee that worked toward setting guidelines related to mooring: since then, these guidelines have been adopted by UK Oil and Gas, and is being applied around the world by operators.

The Right Data: Uniting Field Experience and Progressive Technology

On a project in a West African river delta, Welaptega proved the value of our insight and technology to a major oil company dealing with what appeared to be an incredibly high amount of corrosion on their mooring system. Welaptega CEO Tony Hall explains exactly what happened when we turned up on the job.

Welaptega: First Class Mooring Inspectors

Technology Testing Update: SAMIR Successfully Swims

/
Mechanical systems tests were re-verified, in-water tests were performed without a hitch, and data was produced as expected; without exception, this day of testing was a very positive and crucial step in preparing this revolutionary technology for commercial use. We are excited to prove the system in the upcoming months and showcase the full offshore inspection capability of SAMIR.

Welaptega to attend the Global FPSO Forum

/
Welaptega is preparing to head to Texas next week for the 5th annual Global FPSO conference in Galveston. James Kesten (Welaptega’s Business Development Manager for North and South America and Offshore Engineer) will be speaking on the topic of Mooring Integrity and Mooring Design. The Forum aims to bring together industry experts from around the globe with real-world FPSO experience.

Mooring Failure Monitoring

/
Questions to FPSO Operators: How would you know if you had a mooring failure? How confident are you that you are presently operating with all lines intact? For FPSOs with external turrets or spread mooring system, you’re probably pretty confident in your ability and time frame for detecting a failed line whether it be an in-air load cell or visual check of line angles.

Tullow awards Welaptega MFPA Contract

/
Welaptega Marine Ltd. has secured a contract with Tullow Oil for work in the Jubliee field in Q1 2014. Welaptega, in alliance with BPP-TECH, will be completing a Moorings Fitness for Purpose Assessment (MFPA) which is fully compliant with the Floating Unit Mooring Assessment (FUMA) requirements of insurance underwriters, recently published by the Joint Rig Committee.
