Welaptega recently scored an opportunity to support youth and the local community with a donation to the Brookfield Atom 1 Elks hockey team. The monies donated supported participation in the Bedford Tournament where the Atom 1 Elks team went undefeated in all three games. This winning streak continued and they secured the silver medal in the Middleton Tournament and were invited to play at the Halifax Scotiabank Centre during the Hockey Day in Canada celebrations. The Elk’s final game of the season was played at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex in Brookfield where the team played for Gold on home ice! With time running out and overtime looming, Atom 1 players pushed hard and Caleb, who plays centre position on the team and is the son of Stephen Wolthers, Operations Project Coordinator at Welaptega, scored the goal that tied the game with a little over three minutes left in the Ettinger-Smith Memorial end-of-season Tournament. The Elks went on to win gold on a goal with just 3.1 seconds left. WOW, what a finish! Congratulations Atom 1 Elks on winning GOLD!
The team and the coaches sent a letter to Welaptega expressing gratitude for the donation stating, “your support is not something we take lightly and is very much appreciated by everyone associated with our team – players, coaches and parents.” Job well done to Caleb and the rest of the Brookfield Atom 1 Elks!
