Over the last few weeks social media has been abuzz with people pouring buckets of ice water over their heads in the spirit of charity, and here at Welaptega Marine it’s been no different.
If you have stepped away from your computer, tablet and smartphone recently and you’re unsure what it’s all about the Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) ice bucket challenge sees people being filmed while having a bucket of ice water poured on their heads as a way of raising awareness of ALS and raising funds through charitable donations to help fight the disease.
If you accept and complete the challenge you can then nominate up to 3 others to take the challenge too, the usual stipulation is that the nominated participants have 24 hours to accept and complete the task or forfeit by way of a charitable financial donation.
After members of our operations staff were nominated, they decided to throw down the gauntlet to our design team, which led to the inevitable conclusion that pretty much every remaining member of staff in the office was eventually challenged!
Welaptega Marine matched all donations made by staff members to increase the overall funds raised and donated to ALS Canada, where this money will be used to help find a cure for ALS through their research program and help provide care for those affected by the disease.
