The RMS is a tool that uses high resolution video cameras to identify potential damage to the interior and exterior of wire and fibre ropes. The ROV deployed version of the RMS consists of an acetal frame equipped with a hydraulic sled, independent suspension systems for traveling along the rope, marine growth cleaning components, and geometrically fixed cameras. The in-air RMS is simpler in design and is deployed between the winch and the spool.
