Tony Hall is founder and CEO of Welaptega Marine, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He holds an MSc in Marine Biology from Memorial University in Newfoundland and is a Fellow of the university’s Department of Graduate Studies.
He founded Welaptega in 1991 to provide oil and gas operators with data on marine growth on offshore installations.
In 1996, he relocated the company to the UK where he developed underwater technologies to measure and inspect moorings on floating production systems in the North Sea.
Since that time, he has pursued an aggressive R&D program, developing underwater technologies such as 3D video, 3D modelling, mooring chain measurement and rope measurement to enhance production integrity and safety on offshore installations.
Today, Welaptega conducts subsea integrity programs on production installations and drill rigs in the North Sea, North West Shelf of Australia, Gulf of Mexico and West Africa. It’s technologies have been used by oil and gas supermajors such as Shell, ExxonMobil, BP, Statoil and ChevronTexaco.
Mr. Hall was a founding member of the Floating Production Systems Joint Industry Project on Mooring Integrity and served on its steering committee. He now serves as a member of Phase II of the Mooring Integrity JIP.
