3D Modeling

Welaptega 3D modeling (3DM) uses advanced techniques to generate geometrically accurate 3D models of subsea components on offshore oil and gas platforms and infrastructure.

3D models provide the best information available to inform decisions that ensure safety and production in offshore operations.

Welaptega engineers construct the 3D models from digital images taken with underwater cameras deployed by remotely operated vehicles (ROV).

Models generate measurements of unprecedented geometric accuracy. This data is used to identify and measure the condition of subsea components such as mooring chains, rope (fibre and wire), wellheads, umbilical risers, pipelines and Flexjoints.

Advanced techniques

Welaptega 3D Modeling uses photogrammetric techniques to generate geometrically accurate 3D models called Surface Elevation Maps (SEMs) from high-resolution digital images.

The scalar models make it possible to conduct high-detail investigations with unprecedented geometric accuracy.

3D models are built by engineers using specialized software that extracts points which are then used to construct the model.

Accurate dimensions and measurements are used to characterize deteriorative mechanisms on material integrity of subsea components.

Models detail damage and problems such as corrosion, pitting, fatigue and other damage on safety critical underwater assets.

Under ideal conditions, Welaptega 3D models deliver sub-millimetre accuracy which is achieved using high-resolution subsea images.

Welaptega’s 3D Modeling techniques make it possible to take direct measurements, calculate areas and volumes, and perform a full array of dimensional analyses (e.g. cross sections, min-max analyses) using industry-standard CAD packages.

Models can also be formatted for compatibility with Finite Element Analysis software programs, allowing the use of SEMs to be the basis for remediation/repair design and planning of subsea components.
